New Rider Program

To help new and prospective members get off to a great start, Tripleshot is introducing a New Member Friday Ride program for road cyclists.

All new and prospective road members are asked to complete two specific Friday rides:

  1. New Member Skills Ride

  2. New Member Group Ride

These rides take place on the first and second Friday of each month, meeting at our usual spot in the Oak Bay High School parking lot with a 6:00 am rollout. Each ride will be led by two experienced Tripleshot members.

Purpose of the Program

The New Member Friday Rides are designed to:

  • Provide a friendly, low‑pressure introduction to Tripleshot riding culture

  • Teach and review essential group riding skills and expectations

  • Ensure riders are comfortable, predictable, and safe in a group setting

  • Give ride leaders an opportunity to support new riders and answer questions

As a reminder, prospective members are welcome to sign up as a Test Rider and attend up to two test rides before full annual membership is required. Completion of the two New Member Friday rides is required for all new road members before participating in regular club road rides, regardless of whether you sign up as a Test Rider or full member.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • All new and prospective road cycling members, regardless of prior experience, must complete both the Skills Ride and the Group Ride before joining a regular club ride.

  • No, you can be a full member OR sign up as a “Test Rider”. These rides can count toward your two free test rides. Full annual membership is required after test rides are completed.

    • The Skills Ride (first Friday of the month) focuses on basic group riding skills, communication, safety, and expectations.

    • The Group Ride (second Friday of the month) is a structured group ride that applies these skills in a real‑world setting, with guidance from experienced leaders.

  • The pace is comfortable and controlled at a relaxed “C” pace. The goal is learning, riding smoothly together, and getting familiar with Tripleshot-style group riding rather than speed or fitness.

  • A road bike (with drop bars) in good working order is required. Riders should also wear a helmet and bring a spare tube, pump or CO₂, and be prepared to ride in a group environment.

  • Once both rides are completed, you’re welcome to join regular Tripleshot road rides that match your ability and interests.

  • That’s exactly what these rides are for. The environment is supportive, friendly, and designed to help you build confidence while riding with others and get to know some familiar faces in the process.

  • Well, we’d really like you to! However, attending coffee is optional.
