Youth Program
Our world-class Youth Program is led by Lister Farrar, Cycling BC award-winning coach and one of Tripleshot’s founding members. Lister is backed by a rotating staff of certified assistant coaches that includes youth program alumni and decorated athletes.
With a focus on shared workouts and a strong team environment, the program supports kids’ social, physical, and athletic development. The emphasis is on training together as a group, building skills and confidence through a supportive community. To keep the group vibrant and growing, the program recruits through bike shops, word of mouth and velodrome programs, and our coaches design sessions that are fun, varied, and engaging.
Values
Health, fun, ethical sport, teamwork, excellence, persistence, flexibility and professionalism.
Frequent Group Workouts
We offer four to six sessions per week, which allows for progress and provides flexibility—members attend as many sessions as they want to and are able to. On-bike sessions include road, cyclocross/gravel, mountain biking, and track cycling—in partnership with the Greater Victoria Velodrome Association. Strength workouts in the gym are also a regular part of the program. Participation in local races is included for fun, training and competition, but is optional.
Seasonal Training and Variety
The program aligns with Cycling Canada’s Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model, employing a multi‑disciplinary, seasonally structured training plan that incorporates road, track, mountain bike, cyclocross, and dry‑land work. Rotating disciplines throughout the year keeps cycling engaging, supports higher training volumes without burnout, and makes space for riders who participate in other sports.
Room to Grow
The program offers progression through year-round skill development and entry-level competition. Racing is an integrated part of the program once riders are comfortable with their skills. Youth riders have the option to attend up to 20 races per year, with coaching support. Seasonal camps in March (cross/road) and August (mountain bike/track) provide opportunities to further develop skills in a fun group environment. The youth team represents Tripleshot at local, provincial, national and international events. For interested riders, high-performance training plans and preparation for provincial and national selection events are offered.
Fees
Fees are kept affordable through support by our sponsors and donors, and annual grants from the Smith Foundation and the BC Gaming Commission. A highlight on many club members’ calendar and a key fundraiser for the program is the annual Tripleshot CrossFondo, a fixture on the national gravel calendar since 2016.
Bikes and Gear for Loan
Thanks to donations from alumni, pro riders, club members and other local cyclists, the program offers loaner clothing and shoes, and a rental program of bikes, with nominal fees covering bike maintenance expenses.
Alumni
Highly successful youth program alumni include Olympians Jay Lamoureux (2021 Tokyo Olympics, Canadian record holder in team pursuit; 2018 Commonwealth Games bronze medal), and 2024 Paris track Olympians Erin Atwell and Sarah Van Dam (Visma/Lease a Bike); Adam de Vos (Rally Cycling); Riley Pickrell (Modern Adventure Pro Cycling; Giro d’Italia 2024, 2025); and Brenna Pauly (Red Truck Racing Team Manager).
