It is time to order our club kit! We are staying with our current design which has been very popular. Our KIT DESIGN celebrates both Tripleshot heritage and the Lekwungen-speaking Peoples on whose traditional territories we ride. Tripleshot member and accomplished Kwakwaka’wakw and Coast Salish artist Carey Newman (https://www.facebook.com/carey.newman.7?__cft__[0]=AZXXz56yP5cylk_KjH7mxCR4bQznhETDWuoUApWeOxng_fVc0xeoNTvI5yvN85NRKJC-JrTTP8WOQkQ0Yqu8KhYgVV9KwnSQzFzjn8AqCzzZpQ4lv2zbpOKJQXm7ZetdB46_uTtnqcK_Sqr2Rde8icD9CjorQi-n4Nnkwj4fTkuxFpXkpJtWArJVKccLZ_k6wcU&__tn__=-]K-R)has created two new exciting designs for members to choose from. References to a camas flower, the mountains, and the water of our Island home combine with past Tripleshot visual elements like our coffee cup, cog-wheel, and a geometric nod to argyle. Together with a refreshed logo, we are ready for the future! Gilakas’la, Hayalthkin’geme! Below you will find the information to help out with this amazing organization and a meaningful ride. Our club has been a huge support in the past with Capital Bike. This is a fun event, visiting some memorable areas in Victoria to honour the survivors of residential school survivors. Come out and represent our club with this important community event. Volunteer Request for Capital Bikes September 30, 2023 Truth and Reconciliation Day Ride. This is from Adam Krupper Executive Director of Capital Bike, Hello Ride Marshals!   I’m happy to announce that Capital Bike will be hosting the 2023 Truth and Reconciliation Day Ride.    For those of you who have participated in the past, you know what an amazing, meaningful, and powerful way to honour residential school survivors this is.     BIG IMPROVEMENTS FOR 2023     This year, we’ve got a parade permit for the Ride.  This means that we will be able to use the entire roadway and we will have police officers doing rolling intersection closures along the route.  This means that the entire ride will be protected from automobile traffic and we can focus on what matters most – the ride and residential school survivors.   The Ask      We need 30-35 Ride Marshals!  Last year, we had about 500 people come out – and this year, with the Ride being a full parade, we expect more!      What’s really great is that Ride Marshals have an easier job this year. Ride Marshals will be mostly making sure people don’t get lost or left behind.  If there’s a medical or safety issue, report that to the Police.  No longer will Ride Marshals have to close intersections and block drivers, which will be a big pressure release!   The Details   Date: September 30, 2023 Location:  Songhees Park Schedule:   8 am - Event set-up: stage, sound, tent 8:45 - Ride Marshal talk/prep 9:30 - Speeches begin at Songhees Park  10:30 Riders leave Songhees Park (9.2km ride with Police escort) 11:30 - Arrival at Royal Athletic Park/South Island Powwow 12:30 - Event tear-down, return equipment Next Steps   If you would like to help out at the Ride, please let me know as soon as possible.   Just reply to my email in my signature block.   Additional Help:   We could use help with:   • Postering • Event set-up • Audio set-up on the day of • Distributing Noise Permit notification letters • Spreading the word (digitally) So, if there’s anything that you can lend a hand with, we would be really grateful!   Contact for Capital Bike Adam Krupper (he/him) Executive Director 250-920-5775 adam.krupper@capitalbike.ca(mailto:adam.krupper@capitalbike.ca) capitalbike.ca(http://capitalbike.ca)

As the weather is amazing for riding, and the numbers of our club have grown, I like to remind our members of a couple of sponsors that have supported us with food and beverages for some of our events. Urban Grocer has a weekly flyer that comes out with some great deals. They are independent and supporting our club for our upcoming BBQ on Aug 5th. They also support the Three Ferry Ride last year and will again next year. This week they have Truffle Dessert Chocolate Bars! Yum Yum! Sign up for their flyer. Also, a great place to have a social beer after a ride is Whistle Buoy Brewing Company in Market Square. They are a supporter of the Cross Fondo, our BBQ and other events. When looking for a place to hang out, this is it. Thank you, be safe out there and support our sponsors. See our other sponsors on the home page at the bottom.

We are supporting the BC Criterium Championships here in Victoria on July 16, 202 with our continuing strong volunteer club spirit, The club benefits in a couple of ways from our volunteer support. One of Tripleshot's strengths is our volunteer support to our club and community volunteer opportunities. This year, the Grand Prix is limited to just the BC Criterium Championship, which will be held around the BC Legislature.  A criterium is a bike race consisting of several laps around a closed circuit of 1km.  Race length is determined by the number of laps or total time, in which case the number of remaining laps is calculated as the race progresses. Generally, the race durations are 1 hour or less but with higher average speeds and intensity compared to traditional road cycling races. The winner is the first rider to cross the finish line without having been "lapped". The job and time commitments for volunteering are listed below. Course Setup - Sunday, July 16 from 6 am to 8 am Course Teardown - Sunday, July 16 from 4 pm to 5 pm Course Crossing Marshal - Shift 1 - 8 am to 12 pm Course Crossing Marshal - Shift 2 - 12 pm to 4 pm They are counting on our continued support. The following venues have been expanded for this event: Category 12 Beer Garden Bicycle Polo Demo Tournament Cycling BC Hop Expo for Kids Youth Ability Level Racing Antique Bike Show at the Fairmont Empress Here is a link to a good video https://www.victoriabikerace.com to inspire you to volunteer, you may feel the Tour de France atmosphere here in Victoria! You will witness Elite Athletes competing here in Victoria. Some notable cyclists who have raced in past Grand Prix events in Victoria include: Ryder Hesjedal, Rob Britton, Alison Sydor, Gillian Carlton, Ryan Anderson, Geoff Kabush, Melanie McQuaid, Roland Green, Andreas Hestler, Andrew Pinfold, Gina Grain, Lesley Tomlinson, Sarah Neil......many who have become Olympians, World Champions, Professional Athletes, and even a Grand Tour Win. Defending BC Champion, Al Murison, plans to return to Victoria to defend his title with support from his new La Bicicletta cycling team. However, the Red Truck Racing Team will be putting their efforts to have their racer, Daniel Faser-Maraun take the championship. In the U23 men's age category, we expect to see fireworks on the men's side between Evan Russell (Global Six) and Campbell Parish (Red Truck Racing). A rising star in BC and the new Junior National Time Trial Champion, Matthew Ney, will be looking for vindication from his 2nd place at last year's BC Championship. He is the clear favourite to win and is expected to put on an impressive show of speed and power. On the women's side, local rider and Canadian National Team Track Racer, Erin Attwell (Tripleshot Youth Team), aims to keep the Elite Women's BC Champion jersey on her shoulders as she battles against riders such as Brenna Pauly and the Red Truck Women's Racing Team.  Another Star, Mara Rolden (Red Truck Racing), is motivated to return from injury to battle for the U23 Women's Title. Victoria's very own Kimberley Chen (Tripleshot Youth Team) is expected to continue her streak of success by going for her 2nd consecutive junior girls BC Criterium Championship title. Other Junior Team Members and Tripleshot club members will be racing, come cheer or even better volunteer to get right at the action! Cheers Ron Mierau

There are two volunteer opportunities for the Victoria Half Triathlon on Jul 16. Here is a link to volunteer for the great event. Many of Tripleshot members will be racing. Volunteer to help support them and this local race. https://thevictoriahalfandsprinttriathlon.volunteerlocal.com/volunteer/?id=70900 The first is the Bike Marshal Role:  As a bike marshal, your main job is to keep cyclists safe on course and make sure they know where they are going. Part of your job might be interacting with traffic a bit to ensure everyone stays safe. There will be traffic management in crucial areas. Cyclists are told to follow the rules of the road, but we are trying to give them the right of way, so keep that in mind. You will need to be loud, clear, animated and visible (they can’t really hear you, but they can SEE you) to ensure they notice you and hear what you are saying. Use your arms!! If you can see them, they can see you. There will be signage on the course to help support the cyclists as well. Some of you will be working in pairs, but most of you will be on your own, so make sure your cell phone is charged and with you. Be happy, smile, cheer and have fun!  This is a similar volunteer position as we have for the Tripleshot Cross Fondo Event marshals, if you have volunteered in the past for the Cross Fondo you would be a great asset to help out for the Victoria Half Triathlon. A note that Tripleshot Cross Fondo is on Oct 15, 2023. The second is the Bike Captain Role: The Bike captain is responsible for allocating the marshals on the bike course. The Bike Captain is in a vehicle on the bike course making sure both the volunteers and the athletes are all safe and supported. The Bike Captain also provides drinks and snacks for the volunteers. This position has a $1,500.00 gratuity. Let Ron Mierau know if you are interested and I will pass your name on to the volunteer coordinator for the race. These are great opportunities for our members to volunteer and show our support for local events. My contact information rmmierau@gmail.com 250-580-1369

Tripleshot will once again have the opportunity to assist in the Soldier On training camp this year, after a hiatus due to Covid. Soldier On is a program of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) which contributes to the recovery of ill and injured CAF members and veterans by providing opportunities and resources through sports, recreational, and creative activities. Soldier On is recognized for improving the quality of life of the ill and injured. Some of these athletes will continue on to the Invictus Games in Dusseldorf, Germany this summer! There will be ~10-15 athletes who have chosen cycling as one of their sports and will be coming from various backgrounds. Tripleshot has worked closely with Soldier On Canada in the past to provide training for these athletes. We will have 8 sessions to coach them in cycling basics, dry-land training and road training. The cycling component of the Invictus Games involves a 30min individual time trial. This training camp counts on our volunteers! The camp will be running 6-10 February (weekdays). Please see the Google Drive schedule and sign up where possible. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1y8_7jJTwmAAh8lfrJmbAJm3ozLsnYmNwQNV7uiuAx_o/edit?usp=drivesdk If you are available to take a greater role in leading/planning as well, please reach out and let me know!
