About the event
If you've never enjoyed this road cycling classic, it involves catching the first Coho Ferry (6:10am) from the Inner Harbour to Port Angeles before riding a gentle grade at your own pace for around 32km until you're a mile in the sky (1,598m). A few level stretches let you shake out the legs and the Olympic Muntain views just keeps getting better and better!
The descent is 45 minuites of sheer glee, returning you to Port Angeles for lunch and a cold beverage. You can take the earlier Coho Ferry (12:45pm) back to Victoria if you need to get home by mid-afternoon. But the later departure (5:15pm) allows for more pub-time and maybe a little jaunt out and back on the trail to Port Townsend.
The climbing may sound intimidating but every single member of Tripleshot Cycling can complete this ride. And when you ride along Dallas Road in the future, you'll never look at the Olympic Mountains the same way again. The club will offer vehicle support for biomechanical assistance, stashed bags, and a sag wagon for any unrecoverable technical issues.
Bring enough water, food, tools, and clothing to sustain yourself and maintain your bike. Lights are required for a few tunnels on the way up and down the hill. A gilet (windvest) and arm-warmers are good for going down — the descent is that long!
You can buy your Olympic Park pass online and print before you go ($15 USD): Olympic National Park Site Pass - Recreation.gov
